Situated close to Madrid’s affluent Salamanca district, Hotel Orfila offers a quiet, boutique stay away from the bustle of the busier areas of the city. The hotel is set in a grand town-house dating from 1882 and is decorated in period style with ornate antique furniture, patterned wallpapers, heavy drapes and trompe l’oeil detailing. With just 30 guest rooms and personal service, it feels less like a hotel than a stately, private home.
All the spacious rooms are classically styled with traditional features such as patterned upholstery, drapes and wallpapers, gilt-framed mirrors and fine porcelain. The large windows overlook the small courtyard or street outside.
The hotel’s restaurant, El Jardín de Orfila, serves lunch and dinner from a menu supervised by two-Michelin-star chef Mario Sandoval. There is also a small, elegant tea room which opens onto the flower-filled outdoor terrace, as well as an oyster bar. Additional dining options can be found close by in the exclusive Salamanca district with its fine dining restaurants and designer shopping. Beyond Salamanca, a 15 minute walk will bring you to El Retiro Park and in 20 minutes you can reach the Museo del Prado.
Rooms are each individually decorated but follow the same style of classic elegance with headboards upholstered with floral fabrics, heavy matching drapes, period-style furniture and subtle lighting. In addition to the classic design elements, rooms all feature complimentary Wi-Fi, smart TVs, air conditioning and coffee machines. Double rooms and junior suites have bathtubs with attached showers, while suites offer a separate shower and bath. Although the hotel has an elevator, due to the historic nature of the building some of the rooms are accessed by a few additional steps once you reach your floor.
Hotel Orfila is located on a quiet residential street close to both the Salamanca district, an affluent area of Madrid with excellent restaurant and shopping options, and fashionable Chueca with its boutiques, bars and restaurants. The metro can be reached on foot in about three minutes for easy access to the rest of the city, or, if you’d prefer to walk, you can reach El Retiro Park in about 15 minutes and the Museo del Prado in 20.
Food and Drink
El Jardín de Orfila serves lunch and dinner every day from a choice of tasting menus supervised by Michelin-starred chef Mario Sandoval. Additionally there is the option of adding a special wine pairing selection. You may also wish to take advantage of the hotel’s oyster bar, or the elegant tea room which opens onto the central terrace. The nearby Salamanca district is also a fine place to explore with plentiful dining options.
For those looking for understated luxury and the highest levels of service, the Orfila is an excellent choice. We love the peaceful courtyard and finely-crafted food on offer here.
