Anantara Rasananda Koh Phangan Villas
Set on the quiet north-east coast of the picturesque island of Koh Phangan, the Anantara Rasananda Koh Phangan Villas offers stylish, low-key luxury in a beautifully unspoiled location.
With a beautiful, white-sand beach and a little village offering a small selection of local restaurants and shops, Thong Nai Pan Noi is a charming reminder of Thailand from years gone by. Laid out like a traditional, Thai village, the resort is set among lush gardens dotted with streams and winding paths intersected by traditional gates. Dining is a highlight at the resort with a chic restaurant set on the sand and a teppanyaki restaurant that attracts diners from around the island. While the resort is a great base for exploring the lush, mountainous inland of Koh Phangan and taking snorkelling or diving trips to Angthong Marine National Park, the focus for many visitors is simply rest and relaxation.
The 64 stylish and spacious suites and villas all have their own pool and are decorated in a contemporary Thai style with polished teak floors and silk furnishings. Many enjoy ocean views or a lovely setting on the beachfront.
Before the beach - 4 days
Koh Samui was one of the first Thai islands to be discovered by Western visitors and offers a wide range of amenities, yet the north coast has retained much of the island's traditional atmosphere and charm. Take in the ocean views as you enjoy local seafood in one of the restaurants and bars set in old Portuguese stilt houses, explore the Na Muang Waterfalls in the centre of the island or head east to Chaweng’s bustling shops and nightlife.
The Anantara Bo Phut Resort sits on the north coast on Bo Phut Beach, an easy walk from Fisherman’s Village and a wide range of restaurants. It features a waterfront pool, beautiful gardens and an excellent spa, all in an attractive Thai style.
Anantara Rasananda Koh Phangan Villas
64 rooms, 2 restaurants, 2 pools
The Anantara Rasananda is a stylish resort set on Thong Nai Pan Noi's sandy beach, on the island of Koh Phangan.
Set against a backdrop of lush tropical rainforest, the property offers 64 spacious villas and suites, each with its own private plunge pool and indoor and outdoor living spaces. Polished teak and silk furnishings add character and a sense of place.
The resort's low-key luxury gives it a boutique feel. Set out like a traditional Thai village, the property has beautiful, mature gardens dotted with ponds and streams and traditional gates.
The idyllic beach and unspoiled location, along with first-class dining, set the resort apart.
While there are no specific facilities aimed at children, the resort welcomes guests of all ages, and the shallow slope into the sea makes the beach a good option for small children.
The Anantara is located in the northeast of Koh Phangan, overlooking Thong Nai Pan Noi. It's set right by the beach, whose soft, white sand gently shelves into the ocean.
Although Koh Phangan is only a short speedboat ride from Koh Samui, it's much quieter and less developed. There are just a handful of hotels on this beach, and the area retains the charm of small island life which once defined Thailand.
In the same bay as the property is a small village which, although only having one street, is large enough to offer a small selection of local restaurants, a few shops and a mini mart.
With a beautiful beach and unspoiled location, we think the Anantara Rasananda is a great choice for those looking for some low-key luxury. It's best suited for those looking to relax and explore the island rather than making use of hotel facilities.
The spacious suites are tastefully decorated in a contemporary Thai style, with wooden floors and deep, rich reds. All have a private pool as well as either a balcony, terrace or garden. Amenities include air conditioning, TVs, DVD players and espresso machines.

Activities, diving & excursions
Although the resort doesn’t have its own dive centre, there are several in the surrounding village. Nearby, Angthong Marine Park has good diving spots for both novices and experienced divers, with the best time to dive being January to April.
Food & drink
Bistro @ the Beach is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Tables are set out on the sand, allowing you to enjoy delicious Thai or international dishes while looking out over the ocean.

The resort can also arrange private dining on the beach, and there's a beachfront bar serving a variety of drinks.
Live music and other performances, such as fire shows and traditional Thai dances, are hosted in the evenings. Meanwhile, the nearby village offers a range of local dining options.
The spa here is built into the hillside behind the resort, creating a beautiful natural setting. There are four treatment rooms, two of which are open-air.
Location: Koh Samui
With its beaches lapped by the warm blue waters of the Gulf of Thailand, Koh Samui was one of the first islands to be discovered by Western visitors.
There are direct flights from Bangkok, Hong Kong and Singapore meaning that Koh Samui has now become the most accessible Thai island.
Traditional Thai fishing villages
Samui lends itself to exploration and you will find hidden coves and traditional Thai fishing villages as well as a full range of hotels and resorts to suit all budgets.
Its location in the Gulf of Thailand means Koh Samui avoids the full brunt of the annual monsoon with only October through to mid-December experiencing heavy rainfall.
Anantara Bo Phut Resort
Accommodation: Anantara Bo Phut Resort
Set near the quieter northern beach resort of Bo Phut, the Anantara Resort on the island of Koh Samui has 106 rooms, spread across three charming room types and five suite categories.
