Chris is an Audley South Africa specialist and also a keen amateur photographer. Recently he got the opportunity to travel back to the country he specializes in and to many of the wildlife hot-spots the country is famed for.

Here, Chris shows off just a small selection of some of the photos he took, along with a short accompanying description he wrote for each.

Cheetah Cub, Phinda Private Game Reserve

This young cub is one of three that a female in the north of Phinda has recently had. We found the family one evening, not long after they had finished feeding on a kill so they were lying around and were very relaxed.

During the dry season, the watering holes in Madikwe are a vital life source for much of the wildlife in the park and as such, you can often sit near one and let the animals come to you. These two white rhino came down one evening and the light at that time of day, in combination with the flat surface of the water, helped to give the great reflections.

Zebra, The Sabi Sands Game Reserve

While a lot of wildlife in South Africa is best suited for colour photography, the contrast of a Zebra’s stripes means that they can be great subjects for black and white photography. I took this shot in Sabi Sands Game Reserve.

The Tugela Gorge in the Royal Natal National Park is one of the most spectacular parts of the Drakensberg Mountains. With a well-established trail, the walk here is superb, with amazing views around every corner.

About my trip to South Africa

Over the last few years I have been fortunate enough to have spent over six months in South Africa, both through work and travel. It was my time working in the safari industry out there that first kindled my love for photography, in particular images of the natural world.

The images above are some of my favourites from a recent trip during which I visited Madikwe Game Reserve, the Sabi Sands, the Drakensberg Mountains and Phinda Private Game Reserve.
