Linyanti Ebony Camp

Linyanti Ebony Camp

Linyanti Wetlands, Botswana

Set in a remote area filled with wildlife, this intimate camp offers a high level of accommodation for couples, families and groups of friends. The four canvas tents overlook the Linyanti marshes and have a simple but tasteful style that amplifies the feeling of being on a traditional safari. From your private deck, you can often see elephant and antelope coming to drink.

The open-sided communal tent is strewn with sofas, tables and chairs where you can unwind between game drives. Outside, you can cool off in the pool, and the boma is lit in the evening.

As you’re on a private reserve, game vehicles can go off-road in search of animals like lion and wild dog, and drives continue after sunset as you search for nocturnal bush babies and African wildcats. Mokoro trips are offered when water levels are high enough, and walking safaris immerse you in the sounds of the bush.

OUR OPINION:

We like the flexibility this camp offers to guests with children, and the complimentary helicopter rides during the dry season add another level of excitement to your stay. The location is peaceful and private, giving you a good chance of seeing large game.

Rooms

Three of the canvas tents offer twin beds, with space to add a third bed for a child. The larger family tent accommodates up to four guests. Each tent is set on a raised wooden platform and has a private deck overlooking the seasonal marshland. Inside, the en suite bathroom is separated from the main room by a wooden screen, and dark wooden furniture and floors are used throughout.

Location

The camp is set in a private reserve that borders Chobe National Park to the west. It overlooks the Linyanti Marshes, which are an important water source during the dry season, attracting large numbers of elephant, hippo, lion and antelope species.

Food and drink

As with most safari camps, Linyanti Ebony offers a number of meals that are spread across your day between activities. A light breakfast at dawn is followed by a hearty cooked brunch. High tea is served before your afternoon activity, including freshly squeezed lemonade, cakes and pastries. Then in the evening you return to a three-course dinner served around the communal dining table. Often this will be outside by the boma and comprise meats cooked over a braai.

Families

The family tent offers plenty of space for a family of four. It’s furnished with a double bed and twin beds as well as a bathtub, while the outdoor deck has sofas where you can sit and play games, and meal times can be flexible. Children aged under 16 are unable to join walking safaris, but shorter nature walks around camp are offered as an alternative. Larger groups of at least eight can book exclusive use of the camp.

Facilities and activities

The main communal area includes a small pool and lots of seating areas both inside and outside where you can relax between activities. Each day you can go out on morning and afternoon game drives that last after dark. Walking safaris are sometimes offered as an alternative. And, depending on water levels, mokoro trips can take you along nearby waterways. Between April and October, you can also enjoy a complimentary 30-minute helicopter ride over the bush.
