Mokolwane Camp

Mokolwane Camp

Xudum Concession, Botswana

The camp’s limited number of tents are perched ten feet off the ground, tucked away in 180,000 hectares of Delta wilderness, home to one of the most densely populated leopard habitats in Africa. Days here are spent traversing open floodplains, vast grasslands, mopani and riverine forests in search of wildlife. Back at camp, a waterhole provides exciting wildlife viewing from the tents and main area, ensuring the opportunity for wildlife sightings never really stops.

OUR OPINION:

Mokolwane blends simplicity with comfort in a location renowned for its excellent predator population, including lions, leopards, and wild dogs.

Rooms

The tents are comfortable in their design, including an en suite bathroom with an indoor shower and flush toilet. They’re situated on wooden stilts above the ground, with views over the expansive flood plains.

Location

Situated in the mostly untouched Xudum concession of the Okavango Delta. The area has an abundance of elephants and boasts a remarkably healthy leopard and wild dog population. As the sole camp for miles, it provides an ideal setting to immerse oneself in solitude and tranquillity.

Food and drink

Meals are enjoyed in the communal dining area overlooking the Matsebi River system. While dining, you may be spoiled with a visit from a herd of elephants, as they often frequent the camp to enjoy the surrounding trees' wild figs, berries, and palm nuts.

Facilities and activities

A raised deck with tented buildings housing the bar, main lounge, and dining room make up the camp’s common spaces. An adjoining deck nearby, also overlooking the floodplain and features a small swimming pool with sun loungers.

Mokolwane Camp focuses on morning and afternoon safari drives. From the camp, you’ll be introduced to the diverse landscapes of the Okavango Delta, from lagoons to floodplains and grasslands to mopane forests. The wildlife is plentiful in the area, with prolific birdlife and the chance to see both wetland and dryland species. Additionally, there are various habitat types due to changing water levels, making this a particularly scenic area of the Delta.
