Little Sable is the equally tasteful but more down-to-earth sister camp of Sable Alley.

It offers a fantastic safari experience with classic design, Meru-style tents, abundant activities, and excellent service.

OUR OPINION:

While the camp is slightly pared down compared to other camps in terms of amenities, its location on a 200,000-hectare private reserve allows for uncompromised wildlife sightings.

OUR RATING: Medium

Rooms

The camp's spacious tents are connected by raised wooden walkways. A small deck at the front of each tent offers views across the grasslands surrounding the camp, which are often dotted with grazing elephants and various antelopes.

Location

Situated deep within the Khwai Private Reserve, Little Sable is in a prime wildlife-viewing location, chosen for its wildlife density and scenery. The reserve borders the Moremi Wildlife Reserve to the south and the arid landscape of Savute to the north, with the vegetation of the Khwai River within easy reach.

Food and drink

Delicious meals are provided throughout the day, despite being so deep in the African bush. Breakfast is generally served around the fire pit, lunch in varying locations dotted around camp, depending on the shade of the trees, and a three-course dinner is usually enjoyed under a blanket of stars.

Facilities and activities

In the heart of the camp’s main area, there’s an open-sided, thatch-and-timber dining room, lounge, and bar area opening onto a seating area around a large fire pit. A small pool is nearby for cooling off between safari activities.

Activities depart the camp twice a day, and generally last three to four hours before returning. However, if something exciting is found, there’s flexibility to stay out longer to enjoy the sighting and get photos. It’s likely that your guide will head toward the pools and waterways of the Khwai River, as this tends to be where most animals congregate.

A couple of these waterholes have a ground-level hide for close-up photography opportunities. When the water levels permit. It’s also possible to enjoy a peaceful mokoro trip along the channels to enjoy the smaller elements of a safari, or a larger boat explores the deeper water, which is particularly good for bird sightings as the sun goes down, and drinks are served onboard. In the private reserve, it’s possible to continue your afternoon safari after dark, which offers a different dimension in search of nocturnal animals.
