Sable Alley

Sable Alley

Khwai Concession, Botswana

Situated in a private reserve within the famous Khwai Concession, Sable Alley offers a superb wildlife experience and excellent hospitality.

The camp boasts year round water so is able to offer boating safaris as well as mokoro trips when the water levels are high enough, as well as walking safaris and the more classic game drives too. The camp is easy to access from other parts of Botswana by light aircraft and opens up an area that has previously been under-explored.

Sable Alley sits on the old footprint of one of Botswana’s original safari camps. It offers some prime game viewing and beautiful scenery in a remote part of the Okavango Delta. Permanent water around the camp brings game populations to you, all visible from the comfort of your tent or the cosy lounge and pool area.

Twelve luxurious tents are built on raised wooden platforms with views of the lagoon. The tents are very open, bright and modern with lots of wood features and have both an indoor and outdoor shower. A private veranda at the front of each tent offers lagoon views and comfortable seating. Two of the tents consist of inter-leading bedrooms for families, and there is also a slightly larger honeymoon suite.

The Khwai Concession is a well-known and much loved area of the Okavango Delta. It is administered by the community so offers a wonderful sense of joint partnership between the safari camps and the villagers. In the northern reaches of the concession you will find Khwai Private Reserve which is where Sable Alley and its two sister camps are built. The Khwai area borders the famous Moremi Wildlife Reserve where some of the very best game viewing is to be had. Khwai is a unique area in that it benefits from year round water and Sable Alley itself is built around a lagoon which proves popular to animals and birds throughout the changing seasons.

Food and drink

Delicious meals are provided throughout the day, despite being so deep in the African bush. Breakfast is generally served around the fire pit, lunch in varying locations dotted around camp depending on the shade of the trees, and a three-course dinner is normally enjoyed under a blanket of stars.

There are two family tents at Sable Alley and children over the age of six are welcomed, although they may be limited to a selection of activities.

Facilities and activities

Morning and afternoon game drives explore the Khwai region where plenty of game is found all year round. Walking safaris can be arranged in advance and traditional mokoro rides are offered when the water levels are sufficiently high. Sundowners with a view are a highlight of any stay.
