Kwara Camp

Kwara Concession, Botswana

One of the oldest camps in Botswana, Kwara Camp is set in one of the Delta’s premier concessions. Only three other camps share the enormous 175,000-acre reserve, ensuring that few, if any, other vehicles are encountered on wildlife drives or while silently gliding through a channel in a mokoro. The camp itself boasts spacious canvas tents built on stilts for optimal views out over the floodplain. Additional common areas provide ample space for relaxation and wildlife viewing.

OUR OPINION:

Set on permanent water, the location of Kwara Camp is ideal for activities and a variety of wildlife sightings. Its remote setting means consistently strong predator sightings, including lions, leopards, and the region’s famous wild dogs. The camp blends luxury with an authentic bush atmosphere, creating an intimate stay that feels deeply connected to the surrounding wilderness.

Rooms

The camp boasts luxuriously sophisticated tented suites. The tents are large and open-fronted, leading out to a private deck with lagoon views. En suite bathrooms include both an indoor and outdoor shower, plus a bathtub that looks out over the floodplain, dotted with wildlife throughout the year. Ceiling fans stave off the hottest temperatures.

Location

Kwara Camp is situated on the edge of a beautiful lagoon in the heart of the private Kwara Concession. This concession is renowned for its diverse array of wildlife, offering a wide range of activities, from boat trips through the delta's waterways to the serene stillness of a mokoro trip in the shallow channels. These adventures are in addition to the land-based activities available, with drives (day and night) and nature walks offered. For those interested, it’s also possible to fish for bream and tigerfish, although seasonal restrictions apply.

Food and drink

Meals are served buffet style, bookended by plated starters and desserts. The selection of sides always includes fresh salads, seasonal vegetables, and fruit. There’s a casual air around the tables, but rest assured, the cuisine is thoughtfully prepared, and portions are generous. Private dining can be arranged upon request and is subject to afternoon activities concluding by a certain time. While not fine dining, the fare is delicious, generously portioned, and thoughtfully presented.

Facilities and activities

At the heart of camp is a canvas structure, housing a dining room, comfortable lounge, and curio shop. The tents are spread out on either side, and at each end is a small pool surrounded by a lounge area and bar, well shaded for the midday siesta between safari activities.

You’ll have the opportunity to enjoy day and night safari drives in open 4x4s, guided walks, mokoro trips, boat rides, and seasonal fishing trips within the Kwara Concession, allowing you to see all manner of wildlife while enjoying the stunning surrounding landscape. The camp runs vehicles with both a guide and a tracker, which adds to the experience and provides an extra set of eyes searching for the action.
