Xakanaxa Camp

Xakanaxa Camp is situated in the northern part of Moremi Game Reserve, in riverine forest on the edge of the Xakanaxa Lagoon. It is one of few camps in the Okavango Delta that has permanent water and land based activities available all year round. To the north and west of the camp are permanent lagoons and water channels; to the south and east are the open plains and dry woodlands — ideal habitats for varied wildlife.

The camp has 12 classic safari tents raised on wooden platforms that are spacious and have comfortable, heavy wooden furnishings. The wood floor is decorated with colourful rugs and crisp white linen covers the beds. The en suite bathrooms have reed walls enclosing a shower and wash basin. There is also a small decked area to the front of the tent, a super place to relax and look at wildlife during the heat of the day.

The main camp itself has an elevated thatched living space, with the reed walls of the main dining room and bar extending onto the lagoon. There is a covered lounge with bright-coloured cushions and African ornaments. Outside, under jackalberry trees there is a secluded pool, with a separate plunge pool overlooking the Delta as well as a sunken fire pit, where campfires are lit each evening. As Xakanaxa has no electricity, the camp takes a magical turn at night, with only the stars and flickering paraffin lamps and candles providing light.
