With a unique history and a long-standing connection to the community, The Metcalfe was renovated in 2017 with a thoughtful design, picked to honour the building’s roots and culture. Once the home of Sir George-Etienne Cartier, and subsequently the YMCA, The Metcalfe is now a boutique hotel, conveniently located in downtown Ottawa.

The hotel is sleek and modern, while retaining its proud history by displaying memorabilia throughout the hotel. The staff offer great service, and are proud to be honouring a building that offers so much to Ottawa’s community history. Steps from the thriving Elgin Street and a short walk from Parliament Hill, The Metcalfe is a unique place to stay that offers both great value and an insight into a piece of Ottawa’s culture. 

OUR OPINION:

We’re found that the Metcalfe’s character, comfortable rooms and helpful staff tend to guarantee a pleasant stay. The hotel is popular with government workers due to its proximity to Parliament Hill, however this shouldn’t detract from the hotel’s unique backstory and excellent facilities.

The Metcalfe has classic and executive rooms as well as suites for those who like a little extra space. All rooms feature polished hardwood floors and cosy rugs, luxury bedding and a spa-inspired shower, as well as an armchair or sofa bed and desk depending on room type. Complimentary Wi-Fi, TVs and coffee makers are provided. 

Location

Aptly located on Metcalfe Street, The Metcalfe is just a short walk from the many bars and bistros of Elgin Street. Parliament Hill, ByWard Market and the National Gallery of Canada are all within walking distance, as is the Rideau Centre for those looking for some retail therapy.

Food and drink

On-site restaurant The Rox prides itself on offering local and seasonal ingredients, including locally-crafted beer. Open for breakfast and dinner, the restaurant also offers room service for those who’d prefer to dine in. Helpful staff can provide recommendations for their nearby favourite spots, or head to the popular Elgin Street for a choice selection of top-class restaurants.

The Metcalfe has a wealth of facilities including an indoor pool and sauna, as well as BossArts Spa which not only offers your typical manicures and pedicures but is also a highly-rated barber’s shop. Parking is available at $21 CAD per day plus local taxes.
