Winter lasts at Lake Louise from November until May and there are several activities to enjoy during this time. One end of the lake is dominated by the huge Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise hotel. A short walk through from there will take you to the Lake Louise Ski Resort, where you can enjoy the eating and drinking options in its main lodge, while admiring the mountain backdrop of skiers and snowboarders.

Lake Louise village is 4 km (2.5 miles) from the lake and has a handful of facilities, including a supermarket, fuel station and several restaurants. Locals and visitors enjoy ice skating and the lake is usually cleared of snow in early December. You can also visit the enormous ice castle built on it for most of the winter. Other activities include horse-drawn sleigh rides around the lake, snowshoeing, dog-sledding and snowtubing.
