In the heart of Galle Fort is an 18-bedroom townhouse which has been painstakingly restored and beautifully finished. All rooms are very comfortable, with high ceilings, cooling colours and luxurious fabrics and furnishings. A great boutique option, the hotel also offers a library and the acclaimed Church Street Social restaurant. Vibrant, with a social vibe, menus mix traditional with contemporary.

Fort Bazaar is part of the Teardrop Group of hotels, Teardrop's goal is to integrate sustainability across all its operations, reducing environmental impact, sourcing responsibly, and uplifting communities through meaningful engagement and service initiatives. The group focuses on conversation of water and energy, effective waste management to reduce landfill, reforestation and biodiversity projects, sustainable food supply systems and increasing the female workforce by breaking stigmas in rural areas around women working in hospitality.

OUR OPINION:

Rooms

There are four room types to choose from: Bazaar and Banyan bedrooms, Upper Suites and a split-level Upper Family Suite. All 18 options are very comfortable, with high ceilings, cooling colours and luxurious fabrics and furnishings. Rooms open onto the charming courtyard or are nestled near the banyan tree. Calming and chic, they are modern with all the amenities you would expect from a property of this standard.

Location

Nestled down Church Street, Fort Bazaar boasts a fantastic location within Galle’s 17th-century walled fort. Ideal for exploring on foot, restaurants, cafés, boutiques and tempting gelaterias are all nearby. Evening walks along the rampart walls as the sun sets are a must.

Food and drink

The acclaimed Church Street Social restaurant is popular with guests and walk-ins alike, meaning it has a vibrant, social vibe. Arabic influences continue with Middle Eastern dishes and tapas on the menu, in addition to plenty of Sri Lanka cuisine, such as lagoon crab salad and black pork curry (the latter is divine).
