Lara

Italy Specialist

Growing up in Vermont it was hard to imagine just how much world was out there, but I always knew I wanted to experience as much of it as possible. Now, as an adult with a master’s degree in International Studies, who has explored more than 40 countries and lived and worked abroad for almost eight years, I can honestly say that travel has become a part of who I am, rather than just something I do for a vacation. With grandparents coming from both Naples and Sicily, Italy has always been a destination that has pulled on my heart strings and comprises some of my most significant travel memories.

Being an Italy specialist at Audley is a dream job that allows me to combine my passion for new experiences with my career, and I feel so grateful to be able to bring these unforgettable moments to everyone.

No matter where I’m traveling, I’m on a constant search for the best sunset views, authentic cuisine, and picturesque alleyways that an area has to offer.

Q&A with Lara

Wild boar ragu, Verona, Italy

What’s the best local dish you’ve tasted?

I’m an admittedly adventurous eater, so there’s not much that I won’t try, but sometimes it’s still the simple dishes that impress me the most. During my last trip to Verona, I had the loveliest wild boar ragu on top of homemade pappardelle. A hearty, comforting dish that you can find scattered across menus in both Tuscany and Northern Italy, especially during the fall months. A must try if you enjoy a more traditional bolognese.

Lara paragliding over the Blue Lagoon, Ölüdeniz, Turkey

What’s your most vivid travel moment?

Never did I think I would be floating high above the cerulean water of the Blue Lagoon. In Oludeniz, Turkey there is an area where the conditions and thermals allow for amazing paragliding after running off the side of Mount Babadag. I was terrified to try something like this for the first time, and almost didn’t do it, but it will remain one of the most incredible experiences I’ve ever had.

Cala Goloritze, Sardinia, Italy

Where would you love to travel next?

Although there is no shortage of beautiful coastline and beaches in Italy, Cala Goloritze in Sardinia remains at the top of my list to explore next. The beach was formed in the 1960s after a landslide and now hugs the most gorgeous water you’ve ever seen with an incredible limestone backdrop. Looks like the perfect place to get lost in a novel on my next trip.
