Palenque ruins in Mexico

Michael, Peru and Mexico Specialist

Mike grew up in a small town in New Hampshire, and from a young age knew that he had to go out and see the world.  He had his first taste of international travel while in college studying International Relations in Berlin, Germany. Upon graduating, Mike still had an intense itch to get out and see more of the world, so with an interest in languages he decided to venture down to Guatemala. Here he spent time studying Spanish, volunteering with local schools and exploring the region. This time allowed Mike to get under the skin of area and to gain a unique insight into life in Central America.

When Mike returned he knew that he had to find a company that would allow him to share his passion within Latin America with people interested in traveling to the region. Since joining Audley Travel, Mike has had the opportunity to return to Latin America visiting Peru and Mexico to expand his love and knowledge of this incredible part of the world.

Palacio de Bellas Artes, Mexico City

I recommend visiting - Mexico City

One of the world's largest metropolises, Mexico City is a city of contrasts. As the fifth largest city in the world with over 20 million people living there, art, food, history and culture emerge in a way that makes it one of the most exciting cities in Latin America. Boasting a number of excellent hotels, restaurants, Pre-Aztec ruins, parks, and over 130 museums, there is always something happening in this great city to keep both locals and visitors entertained. Few places in the world can you see the collision of ancient civilizations with modern architecture and skyscrapers, like in Mexico City.

Sol y Luna Lodge and Spa, Sacred Valley of Incas

I recommend staying at - Sol y Luna Lodge and Spa

First Class

About an hour outside of Cuzco, situated in the picturesque Sacred Valley sits Sol y Luna. A unique property made up of a number of different Casita style accommodations, this property provides luxurious and spacious private houses with a plethora of cultural activities that guests can partake in during their stay at the hotel. From the local ranch on the property with over 30 horses offering horseback riding and ranch visits included in the rate, to the heated outdoor pool and spa area overlooking the beautiful valley and dwarfed on all sides by the Andes, this hotel provides an excellent mix of privacy, comfort, and character for an authentic Andean experience.

I'll never forget when…

My most memorable experience was hiking KM 104 to Machu Picchu. KM 104 is a 10 KM hike that finishes on the final segment of the original Inka Trail, and concludes with your first unforgettable view of Machu Picchu from the Sun Gate. The hike takes place on a picturesque ridge line, providing stunning views of glacier capped mountain peaks in the distance, the incredibly restored Winay Wayna Inca ruins built into the side of a mountain, and the powerful Urubamba River carving through the rugged Andean landscape below. The conclusion to this 6 hour hike is unquestionably one of the most rewarding experience you will have during your time in Peru.
