One of South Africa’s oldest wine estates sits sandwiched between Franschhoek and Stellenbosch with a skyline dominated by mountain peaks.
If you’re looking for an authentic way to experience the Cape Winelands, Boschendal’s wine farm and cottages are a great base.
We like how at Boschendal, you can hide yourself away in your own comfortable cottage while being surrounded by vineyards. The Treehouse makes this property a fantastic option for families, whilst the privacy makes Boschendal a lovely option for couples or friends travelling together.

Rooms
Its decorated cottages are dotted around the estate and vary in size from one bedroom to five bedroom units. All the cottages have a living room and dining space, patio with an outside dining table, complimentary Wi-Fi, TV, fireplace, tea and coffee making facilities and a safe. There's also a fully equipped kitchenette if you fancy cooking your own farm-to-table style meal with ingredients from the estate’s Farm Shop & Butchery, selling fresh meats, vegetables, dried goods, breads and condiments.
Location
Dating back to 1685, the estate covers a vast expanse of land and is a superb place to stay in the heart of the wine region. Being immersed in nature, this naturally means the property is a little further from town, although this can be easily forgiven if you’re hoping to have a range of facilities and activities available on your doorstep.
Food and drink
While nearby towns Franschhoek and Stellenbosch are home to a variety of restaurants, Boschendal has its own excellent restaurant, The Werf. It serves three- to five-course menus with wine pairings. All produce served here is grown or reared on the estate.
Families
For children between 4 and 14 years old, there's the Treehouse, with vegetable picking, cooking and painting classes, plus an outdoor adventure area.
Facilities and activities
During your stay at Boschendal you'll have the opportunity to take part in a variety of activities that are suitable for different interests and fitness levels. You might wish to have a look at the property's vegetable garden, join a wine tasting and cellar tour, or simply explore the nearby walking trails at your leisure. Horse riding and mountain biking trips are also available. Alternatively, you might like to relax by one of the outdoor pools, or book a treatment at the small onsite spa.
