Sun Peaks is a small, purpose-built mountain resort nestled in the South Thompson region of British Columbia. In the winter, it’s well known for uncrowded skiing, dog sledding and snowmobiling, a welcoming atmosphere and European-style alpine accommodation.

Sun Peak’s dry climate and average winter temperatures between -5 C (23 F) and -10 C (14F), mean that the resort has reliable and early season snowfall, turning it into a snowy adventure playground from November to April. Sun Peak’s average annual snowfall is around 6 m (20 ft), almost twice as much as your average European ski resort. Despite holding the title of Canada’s second largest ski area, Sun Peaks has a quaint, hospitable and reasonably quiet village.

Sun Peaks is a 360° resort, boasting views from all angles. In the village, you can expect a cosy and inviting alpine atmosphere, inspired by European ski resorts where skiers and snowboarders ride straight down the street. If you don’t fancy hitting the slopes, Sun Peaks is an excellent winter destination for a number of other activities. With dog sledding tours, fat bike rentals, guided ice fishing, horse-drawn sleigh rides, tubing, snowmobile tours, snowshoeing and ice skating on an outdoor NHL sized ice rink, there's much to do.

The numerous shops and restaurants mean that the village is buzzing throughout the day and evening. Expect locally-crafted gifts, fresh coffee and homemade cakes, cuisines from all over the world, winter clothes shops, and massages at the spa. Most of the businesses in Sun Peaks are independently owned and operated, so you’ll generally find quality produce and good hospitality.

Accommodation here reminds us of the ski resort villages of France and Switzerland — wooden alpine-style properties with snow-covered roofs. From family-sized modern condos to hotels and lodges right in the village, whatever you choose will always be just a few minutes’ walk from the restaurants and shops.

For those travelling with younger children, Sun Peaks is a great destination. From family night at the village’s skating rink with games, music and hot chocolate, to the toboggan hill at the base of Mount Morrisey, children of all ages are welcome.
