This two-hour experience allows you to step into the skates of a Canadian ice hockey player, as you put on all the layers of kit and head onto the ice. Your tour takes place at the Canmore Recreation Centre, home of the Canmore Eagles, a well-respected team in the Alberta Junior Hockey League. Here you’ll meet Andrew, the team’s knowledgeable coach, to learn about the history, secrets and superstitions of the game, helping you to understand why Canadians are so obsessed with this sport.
The tour continues with a look around the junior team’s locker room. This is a completely unique experience, as hockey locker rooms are somewhat sacred places — careful you don’t step on the Eagle’s crest. After watching the players practice, you’ll be provided with head to toe equipment and clothing before heading onto the ice to experience the game first hand. The coaches will teach you skills and drills, and you may even be helped by a few of the young players, some of which are destined for the National Hockey League. The tour ends with some photos on the ice, featuring a large Canadian flag in the background.
