We are planning our first holiday to South Africa next Xmas for two weeks. We would like to take in a safari and visit Cape Town. As well as sightseeing, we would like a little downtime. We are a family of 4 (kids aged 18 and 12). Any suggestions would be welcome? Thanks

I would recommend a twin centre holiday as the Cape Town area provides plenty of opportunities for relaxation as well as sightseeing. You could look to stay in the Camps Bay area for somewhere to relax. For a family-friendly safari option at this time of the year, the Eastern Cape reserves would work really well as it is the dry season here, which means excellent game viewing, and this area is non-malarial. Many of the lodges are now getting very booked-up for the end of the year, as this is peak season, but I would especially recommend looking at the Amakhala, Kwandwe and Shamwari private game reserves for family-safari options. The game-viewing in all of these reserves is fantastic.
